Jockey Perry Ouzts recorded his 5,700 lifetime victory at River Downs on Sunday at the age of 57. "When I started out I never would have dreamed of winning this many," said Ouzts from the jockeys quarters after being congratulated by his fellow riders. "After I got to 5,000 I really didn't know how long I'd ride, but I feel great and now I guess I'll go after Jerry Bailey's record." Hall of Fame jockey Jerry Bailey retired in 2006 with 5,893 wins. Ouzts is currently ranked 18th for all-time number of riding victories.
The win aboard Count One that put him at that 5,700 mark was his fourth win of the afternoon. The native of Lepanto Arkansas was won 21 riding titles at River Downs. He currently leads all riders at the meet with 84 trips to the winner's circle and maintains a win figure of 28%. He is currently 46 wins ahead of the second leading jockey of the meet.
