In celebration of a successful summer at River Downs, the track will once again have a Fan Appreciation Day on Saturday. In addition, River Downs will open its gates a half-hour early and racegoers will get to see the final race of a local legend - Eagle Time.
For Fan Appreciation Day fans will get to select their own giveaway prize, free with the purchase of a program. The track will offer collectors mugs, umbrellas, bobbleheads and t-shirts, while supplies last until 3:00 p.m.
Saturday is Travers Day at Saratoga and they will begin simulcasting their first race at 11:30 a.m. Gates will open early at 11:00 a.m. at River Downs. Known as the "Midsummer Derby" the $1,000,000 Travers Stakes at 1 1/4 miles will pit Preakness Stakes winner Shackleford against Belmont Stakes winner Ruler On Ice along with a very strong field of 3-year-olds that includes Jim Dandy winner Stay Thirsty and Haskell Invitational victor Coil. On the undercard, last season's 2-year-old Champion Uncle Mo will make his return to the races in the $250,000 King's Bishop against some of the fastest horses in the country.
Rick Jordon's 14-year-old stallion Eagle Time will attempt to become the oldest horse in River Downs history to record two wins at a meet. This will be the "Swan Song" for Eagle Time. He is favored at 8 to 5 in the third race of the afternoon and Jordon has announced that it will be his final career race. A retirement party for Eagle Time is being thrown by River Downs on Labor Day.
