EDGAR PAUCAR RIDES SIX WINNERS AT RIVER DOWNS

Edgar Paucar had the rides of his life on Sunday when he guided six of his seven mounts to victory at River Downs. "I cannot believe it," said the elated 34-year-old jockey, while receiving congratulations from his fellow riders. "I was very excited going into the last race. He popped out of the gate and when he took the lead I just kept asking him to go on and he ran away from the field. What a great feeling. I've ridden five winners in a day at Beulah Park, but never six."

Paucar hails from Lima Peru and graduated from the jockey school there that also produced the likes of Edgar Prado, Jorge Chavez and Rafael Bejarano. He began riding in the U.S. in 2004 at Penn National, where he rode mostly pick up mounts. He moved on to New England and rode the fair circuit and eventually at Suffolk Downs. On the advice of jockey Vernon Bush he moved his tack to Ohio where he has had much success. Paucar is currently the seventh leading rider in North America in number of wins with 184. At River Downs he joins the "six-win club" with jockeys Perry Ouzts and Carlos Marquez.

Paucar won the first four races on the Sunday card with Painted Forest ($3.00), Last Pruner ($3.80), Savannah ($4.40) and Apache Chief ($11.00). He failed to hit the board in the fifth race and did not ride in the sixth. Paucar finished the day with two wins aboard Flatterdew ($13.40) and Accordian Man ($8.40).
